i have a theory. not a very big one though.

When I went to IAMM (islamic art museum malaysia) today, i saw the sign "Cafe & Restaurant".

And the & looked like an Et. which in french means and. et = and.

When I looked it up online, there was nothing of the sort. but it does look like an acceptable theory of its origin.

On a not so different note, here's something I learnt when researching it:

The irony mark or irony point (؟) (French: point d’ironie; also called a snark or zing) is a proposed punctuation mark that was suggested to be used to indicate that a sentence should be understood at a second level. It is illustrated by a small, elevated, backward-facing question mark

Understood at a second level. How interesting that sounds and how I agree to the suggestions. Then people would not be confused on what some people are trying to say and we can all be happy knowing what other people really mean.

Wouldn't we all be happy if everyone just say what they meant?
